NATURE AND SCOPE:
Under the direction of the Sports Director or Executive Director, the Sports Coordinator will provide hands-on support for the successful operations of various sports programs. They will support practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
  • Coach a variety of sports programs that include baseball, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, volleyball, etc.
  • Compile program statistics and assists in sports planning.
  • Schedule and attend sports practices, games and/or matches.
  • Purchase and secure program equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluate the program, coaches, officials, and volunteers.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Establish, collaborate, and maintain relationships with the members, volunteers, staff, schools, and the public.
  • Attend, complete, and pass Spirit Point of Sale and Spirit Program Management, as needed.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation (registrations, rosters, reports, rules, coach packets, waivers, incident/accident reports, etc.).
  • Recruit program participants on a continual basis.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree in excise science, kinesiology, or sports management or related field OR High school diploma and 1+ years of competitive sports
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities
  • Strong Human Relations and Conflict Management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, and volunteers and staff of all ages
  • Proficient knowledge of computers, various technology, and applications
  • Ability to multitasks, work independently, problem solve and effectively manage time
  • Must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, completion of CPR, First Aid, and AED training
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in excise science, kinesiology, or sports management or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in competitive sports
  • Non-profit experience

NATURE AND SCOPE
Under the direction of the Sports Director or Coordinator, the Sports Monitor will monitor sports programs. The Sports Monitor is also responsible for opening/closing sites and responding to various situations to ensure safety for participants and spectators and the cleanliness of the site. This position does not provide sports instruction.
This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols, and Member Services Guidelines and Non-negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Monitor sports practices, clinics, games, or open play.
  • Set up, monitor, maintain, and secure all supplies, equipment, and buildings.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of facilities.
  • Reports any problems to supervisor.
  • Answer inquiries from participants, parents, volunteers, or other stakeholders and provides information or seeks the answers to provide in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the facilities on evenings, weekends or as needed.
  • Must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols, Member Services Guidelines, and Non-Negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.
  • Implement the YMCA safety protocol related to branch and off-site operations.
  • Respond to safety and emergency situations and maintains/reports accurate incident/accident forms.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must meet minimum age requirement of 16 years old.
  • Must be able to independently get to the branch, gym, or fields for scheduled shifts.
  • High degree of interpersonal communication, conflict management, and customer service skills to tactfully enforce all rules and regulations.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR/AED, state approved First Aid, new staff orientation, branch orientation and emergency procedures.
  • May need to be available nights and weekends.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk; run; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift to 60 pounds. May involve movement of large and/or heavy equipment up to 60 lbs. (i.e.: soccer/basketball goals, volleyball nets, sports equipment, uniforms, etc.). May involve being outdoors for long periods of time.

They help beginners learn basic rules, stances, grips, movements, and techniques of a game and helps experienced athletes to sharpen their skills.
This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values, and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols, and Member Services Guidelines and Non-negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.

  • Maintain effective relationships with schools, parents, participants, and other groups.
  • Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction to support program goals.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a 2+ years of experience in coaching or instructing OR 2+ years competitive experience at the college level or equivalent in the sport
  • Must currently hold or be able to acquire any required certification for sport.
  • Knowledge of how to instruct the sport including the rules and technique
  • Ability to motivate, coach, and lead participants
  • High degree of interpersonal communication, conflict management, and customer service skills to tactfully enforce all rules and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Required certifications: Safe Sport and CDC Heads Up Concussion course online; Must obtain any other certifications including CPR/First Aid required for the position within 30 days of hire date
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Criminal background check.
